The Small Sagittarius Star Cloud has goblin nurseries.
That seems like a scenario from "The Addams Family." However, it is caused by hazy clouds of dust that block starlight from further away.
Astronomers refer to them as dark or absorption nebulas. An ESO picture contains two conspicuous ghoul-shaped spots.
These densely packed clumps of stardust reveal themselves by leaving outlines against the brighter stellar backdrop.
The fact that these nebulas are dark does not imply that they are dim: stars may be growing within their dense clouds but are hidden from view.
Barnard 92 (right) and Barnard 93 (left) are the names of the two clouds (left).
