American and Canadian companies are showing their support for Ukraine by removing Russian vodka from the shelves of bars and liquor stores.
After weeks of warnings from Western leaders, Russia on Thursday unleashed a three-pronged invasion of Ukraine from the north, east and south, in an attack that threatened to upend Europe’s post-Cold War order.
Jacob Liquor Exchange, in Wichita, Kansas, has removed all vodkas that are Russian or have any ties to Russia from the shelves. In a phone call, the store manager confirmed the decision, saying the extra space would be used to promote Ukrainian vodka.
Canadian liquor stores are removing Russian vodka and other Russian-made spirits from their shelves in an act of condemnation of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
In Ontario alone, all Russian-produced products will be recalled from 679 stores.
A bar in Michigan has taken a similar route to express support for Ukraine. In a Facebook post.
